J&K Weather: Moderate snowfall likely on December 21, 22



At minus 4.8 degrees Celsius, Srinagar records season’s coldest night so far; Gulmarg freezes at minus 11 degrees

Srinagar, Dec 16: The Meteorological Department has predicted possibility of light to moderate snowfall at isolatedqqq places in Kashmir and Ladakh between December 21 and 22.

The forecast for snowfall coincides with the arrival of the 40- day harshest winter period of Chilai Kalan next week.

As per MeT data, summer capital Srinagar on Tuesday night recorded minus 4.8 degrees, making it the coldest night of the season so far. Earlier this month, the mercury had plummeted to minus 3 in Srinagar.

The ski- resort Gulmarg on Tuesday night recorded minus 11 degrees, also making it the coldest night of the season at the health resort. On Sunday night, minimum temperature in Gulmarg had plummeted to minus 9 degrees. As per MeT data, the coldest ever December temperature in Gulmarg is minus 14 which was recorded in 1994.

Meanwhile, the fresh snowfall and drop in temperatures is attracting tourists including skiers to Gulmarg.
