Scores of Banking Associates aspirants miss exams due to snowfall


We urge authorities to re-conduct exams for those who missed: Aspirants

Scores of Banking Associate aspirants of South Kashmir Sunday staged a protest here against Jammu Kashmir bank authorities for dis-allowing them to take the examinations as they reached late due to inclement weather.


The protesting aspirants said that due to snowfall and slippery conditions of roads they couldn’t reach on time and were few minutes late but were not allowed to sit in the examination.

The protesting aspirants said that the reporting time was 08:30 am and the exam was to start from 10 am however they said arrived at the exam center at Jammu and Kashmir Bank TRC headquarters at around 10 am but were not allowed to enter in the premise.

An aspirant Yasir Altaf from south Kashmir told Rising Kashmir that despite their pleas they were not allowed to sit in the examination.

"I have been preparing for this examination from the last two years, however, the snow and blockade of roads have shattered my all hard work," Altaf said.

Altaf the said exam was also held in previous year and he qualified the prelims at that time and after the august 5 last year the exam was cancelled. 

" This year it was scheduled and missing exam is not less than a shock to me," he said.

Another aspirant Hardeep Singh said that there was no prediction about the snow and somehow they managed to hire private vehicles and due to slippery conditions of roads they were late and upon reaching the examinantion centers 'they ere not allowed to sit.'

"We are not asking bank authorities to cancel all the exams or take the exams again for all the aspirants but we are pleading them to conduct examination for those who missed the examination due to snowfall," Singh said.

Soon after the aspirants staged protests at press enclave Srinagar, social media was abuzz and social media users expressed anger against the bank authorities for not postponing their exam.

A social media user Mir Fareed wrote “JK bank sky won't have fallen if exams were rescheduled, this isn’t Europe, snow still shuts life in many ways, transport being one big issue, so many other exams were postponed, you should have also done the same for larger good...”

Another Banking Associate who missed the exam wrote, “I paid 1500 to sumo driver from Bandipora to Munawar Abad for JK Bank exam that was scheduled for today. But I was unlucky as I couldn’t reach on time. 

I reached 1 hour late they didn’t allowed me to sit in the exam."

Meanwhile, several reports received from various aspirants from Bandipora, Handwara and Karnah also said that they too have missed the examination as they couldn’t reach the examination centers on time due to snowfall and slippery conditions of road at various places.

The protesting aspirants have appealed the JK Bank higher authorities to look into matter at the earliest.
