Officials admit lapse, results were announced within 40 days in past

Srinagar, Feb 12: Despite conducting the annual board exams of class 10th and 12th amid pandemic, the Board of School of School Education (BOSE) is yet to declare the results even after the culmination of the exams more than two months back.

Although, a recent announcement was made by BOSE officials that results would now be announced next month, however, the news did not soothe parents or students.

The students as well as their parents fear that unwanted delay in the results may jeopardize their future prospects of a bright future.

The regular annual examinations of 10th and 12th standard commenced in the second week of November 2020 and culminated in the last week of November and second week of December last year respectively.

The students who had appeared in the examination said that it has been more than four months since their exams culminated and BOSE is still not declaring their results.

One of the students said, “In October-2020, COVID-19 was at its peak. Despite the resentment by parents and students, the BOSE issued the date-sheet for the exams. The BOSE's admancy did nothing except for putting the lives of thousands of students at risk by forcing them to appear in the exams amid pandemic.”

“If BOSE officials were that keen to conduct exams on time, then why have they failed to declare results even after this long?” the student questioned.

The BOSE seems to be least concerned about the efforts being made by the students to secure their future, he added.

Although, many have started preparing for future endeavors, yet there are many who are anxiously waiting for results to take a call regarding their future.

“Our percentage in 12th exams matters a lot as it is only after knowing our percentage we could apply in certain institutions. However, thanks to the lackadaisical approach of BOSE, we can do nothing except for waiting for them to release our results,” said another student.

Similar concern was shared by the parents regarding the delay in declaring the results of secondary and higher secondary classes.

One of the parents said that he wants his ward to compete with the students of other states, but with this "lazy approach of BOSE" he is concerned regarding the future of his ward.

Admitting their fault, officials at the School Education Department said that it usually used to take 40-45 days to evaluate the answer scripts and declare results.

But this year it took them more than a normal time to declare the results.

Earlier in October, the government had announced syllabi relaxation for the 10th and 12th standard students keeping in view the COVID-19 situation.

Despite repeated attempts BOSE chairman did not respond to the calls, nor did she respond to any of the written messages sent by the reporter.
