Chhatisgarh Apr 04 :

Twenty-two government forces personnel were killed in a major attack by Naxal rebels Saturday in a forest area in central India.

The attack took place in a forest along the border between Bijapur and Sukma districts in Chhattisgarh, reported Asian News International (ANI).

The death toll yesterday was five as nearly 30 police and paramilitary personnel were reported to be missing in the aftermath of the attack.

The search operation carried out later found more bodies, taking the death toll to 22. Nearly 30 personnel are reported to be injured in the attack.

More than two dozen weapons have been looted by Naxals from government forces after the gunfight in Chhattisgarh, as per ANI quoting Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) sources.

This was the state’s second big Naxal incident in the last ten days. Five DRG personnel were killed on 23 March when Naxals detonated an IED on a bus carrying government forces personnel in Narayanpur district.

“ I bow to the sacrifices of our brave security personnel martyred while fighting Maoists in Chhattisgarh. Nation will never forget their valour.

My condolences are with their families. We will continue our fight against these enemies of peace & progress.

May injured recover soon,” tweeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah while condoling the death of 22 government forces personnel.

“ The killing of the security personnel while battling Maoist insurgency in Chhattisgarh is a matter of deep anguish. My condolences to the bereaved families.

The nation shares their pain and will never forget this sacrifice,” said President Ram Nath Kovind on Chhattisgarh Naxal attack, as per ANI reports.
