The Ministry of Labor and Employment is contemplating to extend the deadline of the Self-Reliant India Employment Scheme (ABRY) from the current 30 June to March next year. Sources gave this information. Sources said that the ministry may extend the deadline of this scheme to encourage new appointments in the country amid the pandemic.

The Union Cabinet had approved ABRY in December last year. Under this scheme, apart from paying the mandatory provident fund contribution of the employees, the government also pays the employer's contribution on new appointments for two years.

Deadline extended till March 31
Under this scheme of expenditure of Rs 22,810 crore, the employees to be appointed from October 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021 will come. Sources said that the Ministry of Labor and Employment is in the process of issuing a cabinet proposal to extend the deadline of ABRY from June 30, 2021 to March, 2022.

21 lakh employees benefited
Sources said that 21 lakh newly appointed employees have benefited from this scheme so far. This is much less than the government's estimate of 58.5 lakh. Sources said that in such a situation, the Labor Ministry wants to extend the deadline of the scheme till March next year. The allocation of funds for this scheme was done keeping in mind the number of 58.5 lakh beneficiaries.

22,810 crore allocated

During the pandemic, the government has taken several steps for employment generation and relief to the employees. ABRY is one of these measures. Under this, the government has allocated Rs 22,810 crore for the entire period of implementation from 2020 to 2023.

Who can take advantage of this scheme
Under this scheme, every new employee appointed in EPFO ​​​​registered institution will be covered, whose monthly salary is less than Rs 15,000. Apart from this, an employee with a monthly salary of Rs 15,000 or less, who is not working in an organization affiliated to EPFO ​​before October 1, 2020, does not have a UAN or EPF membership account, can also take advantage of this scheme.

EPFO subscribers who have UAN account and get salary less than Rs 15,000 per month but lost their job between 1st March 2020 to 30th September 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic and have not worked in any EPFO-affiliated organization thereafter , he can also take advantage of the scheme.
