Five J&K Residents Qualify UPSC Exam

Rehana Bashir from Poonch secures 187th rank


Five candidates from J&K have qualified the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)-2018 examination, result of which was declared on Friday. All the qualifiers are from Jammu division.

As per the UPSC result notification, the list of qualifiedcandidates has been issued on basis of their performance in written part ofcivil service exams held in September–October 2018 and interviews forpersonality test held in February- March 2019.

Rehana Bashir from Poonch district has secured 187th rank inthe list while as Harvinder Singh from Jammu has got 335th rank in the list.Babar Ali of Mahore has got 364th rank while Gokul Mahajan has secured 373thrank and Devahuti has bagged 668th rank in the selection list of 759candidates.

Kanishak Kataria, an alumnus of IIT Mumbai has topped thecivil services exam. Kataria has graduated with a B.Tech from the institution.

Among the names of first top 25 candidates include 15 maleand 10 females. 

A total of 759 candidates – 577 male and 182 female – have beenrecommended for appointment to the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) andIndian Police Services (IPS).

Talking to Media, Rehana Bashir attributed hersuccess to guidance of her brother Amir Bashir who qualified UPSC examinationin 2017 with rank 843 and is presently serving officer in Indian RevenueService.

" Amir motivated and guided me to achieve this success. I amblessed to have a brilliant brother like him," she said.

A resident of remote Salwah village in Poonch, Rehana ispresently living with her family in Jammu. 

She has completed her schooleducation from Army School Ratnuchak and pursued her Bachelor of Medicine,Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from SKIMS Srinagar.

" Civil services was not in my mind but my brother motivated me for this. It was my second attempt. In 2017 I couldn't make it to the selection list. I didn't opt for any coaching for the UPSC 2018 examination," she said.
