Jammu University includes three police officers in Board of Sports

JAMMU : University of Jammu (JU) has made three J&K Police officers part of its Board of Sports constituted for the period of 2021-2024. The Board is headed by the Vice Chancellor of the JU.

While senior officer, Dushyant Sharma holds the rank of SSP, two other individuals are Inspectors, Kuldeep Handoo and Rashid Ahmed.

However, Dushyant has been named in the list in the capacity of general secretary of the J&K Olympic Association (JKOA) while Rashid as member of Khelo India (TIDC) and Kuldeep Handoo as National chief coach of India (Wushu).

The fourth member, from the sports category, is an outstanding cricketer, Roopali Salathia.

Since there was a pre-condition for involving a women in the composition of the board in sports category, Roopali Slathia was included as Physical Director and Level-2 coach of the BCCI.

Unfortunately, the Vice Chancellor of the JU has violated the J&K Universities Act while making such appointments in sports category, especially in the case of Roopali Salathia.

Undoubtedly, Roopali deserves to be part of such committees and boards, but her appointment has floated the guidelines of composition of the Board of Sports.

As per the composition guideline, four persons, atleast one of whom shall be a woman, not connected with the University and the colleges, interested in Sports, nominated by the Syndicate. And, in the case of Roopali Slathia, she serves with Department of Higher Education as Physical Training Instructor (PTI) and presently posted at Government PG College Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
