Additional essential supplies stored in far-flung areas • Control rooms have been setup in every district
Srinagar, Nov 04 : Ahead of three-day wet spell prediction, the divisional Kashmir administration on Friday said that all arrangements have been finalized regarding the winter preparedness and additional stocks have been stored in far-flung areas in the Valley.
Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole told Rising Kashmir that all arrangements have been finalized ahead of the three-day weather prediction in the Valley.
“ Over the past several days, the concerned departments were directed to remain ready during the winter months.
In case of heavy snow, it will be cleared from main roads on priority, followed by roads leading to emergency services,” he said.
Pole said the administration had set up control rooms in each and every district to overcome the possible crisis during the snowfall.
“ Even in far-flung areas, we have already stored the six months ration in advance at fair price stores, while three months of ration in higher reaches,” he said.
Regarding the snow clearance operations in Valley, the Div Com said four departments who are clearing snow from roads, lanes, by-lanes in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley have deputed enough machines for the same.
“ Men and machinery are on alert ahead of the prediction by the MeT department.
Each department will work according to their domain and assigned responsibilities,” he said.
Pole said the administrative council had recently released SOPs regarding snow clearance on roads in Valley.
According to this, only above 2 inches of snowfall will be lifted from roads.
“ If we clear the snow below 2 inches, it can damage the surface of roads. It was decided that above 3-4 inches will be cleared only," he said.
Regarding electricity, the Div Com said that additional transformers and poles have been stocked in various parts of Kashmir to ensure hassle-free electricity to people.
Following the fresh western disturbances in Kashmir, the weathermen have predicted three-day wet spell in Valley from Saturday onwards.
Director, Meteorological Department Sonam Lotus said they were expecting a fresh spell of snowfall in the Valley from Saturday onward with main activity on Sunday.
