Teacher’s tearful send-off by students goes viral
KALABURAGI : When Kannada teacher Shrinivas Rao Kulkarni left the Lingampalli village government high school on Thursday, he was ringed by weeping students and members of staff.
It was his last day in this school. Kulkarni has been transferred to another school.
Clad in shirt and trousers and with a small bag on his shoulders, Kulkarni stood wiping his tears while children huddled around him and wept.
Some members of staff hugged him, then touched his feet although Kulkarni tried to stop them from doing so.
A cluster of schoolgirls too touched his feet. Kulkarni raised an unsure hand as if to bless the children.
He had taught in this school, in Sedam taluk in Kalaburagi district, for eight years. He was quite clearly the school’s favourite teacher.
After a video on his send-off, which recorded the reaction of the students and Kulkarni’s colleagues, went viral, TOI contacted the 52-year-old teacher.
Kulkarni said he did not see himself just as a Kannada teacher. He had tried to teach his students how to become good citizens.
“ We are not here only to teach subjects. We are here to build a good nation by giving good citizens to the nation,” the teacher said.
Here's said in high school, he too had a good teacher, Mahalingappa Pujari, who taught him to do only good things. Kulkarni had only tried to carry forward his teacher’s work.
He said he always tried to help his colleagues with suggestions whenever they were in trouble. He often told his students to do at least one good deed every day that would make them feel proud.
Anitha Bhimappa, a Class X student, said that Kulkarni sir supported her “always in studies as well in school activities.
He used to encourage us to deliver speeches on special days such as Independence Day and Republic Day.”
Headmaster Tatherao Shindhe indicated that Kulkarni’s association with the school will continue.
“ His participation will be there in any school activities along with his team of students,” he said.
The school has 105 students in Classes VIII, IX and X. Kulkarni has been transferred to a high school in Sedam town.
