Three IUST students ‘forced’ to vacate hostel for some hours after protest

Srinagar : Three students at the Boys Hostel of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora were allegedly forced to vacate their hostel accommodation for several hours on Saturday morning.

The students alleged that their belongings were also thrown out of their allotted rooms. However, they were permitted to go inside their rooms again in the afternoon.

The students said they were victimized since they had protested against the bad quality of food being provided to them in the hostel mess.

“ The meals served to us at dinner on Friday was not good. It had no taste and was not cooked properly,” said a hostel boarder.

“ All the students staged protest against the management of the hostel and most students did not eat the food as well,” he said.

After the protest, the students later went to their rooms.

“ But on Saturday morning, some IUST officials visited our hostel rooms and asked three students to vacate the hostel accommodation,” another student said.

“ They were thrown out of hostel for protesting over quality of food provided to students.

All the hostel boarders protested over the issue but only three students were handpicked for punishment because they were protesting in front,” the student said.

Registrar IUST, Prof. Naseer Iqbal when contacted said the students were temporary allowed to sit in the hostels .”

I have called the students as well as the hostel in-charge for a meeting on Monday. All the issues will be resolved,” he said.
