MeT Predicts Widespread Rains,Snowfall In Jammu & Kashmir


Srinagar : The meteorological department (MeT) on Thursday predicted widespread light to moderate rain, snowfall in Kashmir from March
Sonam Lotus, Director of Meteorological Department, said as expected, light rain/snow occurred at some places in Kashmir. Currently, the weather is overcast to cloudy at most places of Kashmir and at some places of Jammu.

“ Current weather likely to continue till tomorrow morning. Thereafter, weather likely to remain partly cloudy during March 4 and March 5,” said Lotus.

“ Another Western Disturbance is likely to affect J&K during March 6 (Night) to March 8 due to which we expect widespread light to moderate rain/snow (mainly over higher reaches),” he said.

“ There’s no forecast of any significant weather till March 7,” he added.

Gulmarg in north Kashmir the famous tourist place was the coldest place in the Valley where the minimum temperature was minus 4.4 degrees.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of4.6 while the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of 1.6 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature in Pahalgam a famous tourist resort–settled at a low of 0.5 degrees.

Kokernag town recorded a low of 1.5 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of 4.6 degrees Celsius last night.

Jammu city recorded 14.0 degrees Celsius, Katra 12.4, Batote 4.9, Banihal recorded 4.6 and Bhaderwah recorded 4.6 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperatures.
