Srinagar, May 31 : The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association Tuesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan for five years extension in the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) for the J&K UT students.

In a statement issued here, National Spokesperson of Association Nasir Khuehami said that the scholarship will enable poor & marginalized students to continue their studies. “It will bring a paradigm shift in the education system because it will enable the ambitious students to pursue their career goals more effectively. 

Besides, this scheme will provide opportunities to youth of Jammu and Kashmir to dream big & provide means to realize their dreams,” he added in the statement.

Under the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS), every year 5000 meritorious students are funded to study in private and Government educational institutions across the country. With its extension for five more years, more students will benefit in the next five years, the statement reads.

“This scheme was introduced with the main aim to economically assist and aid needy and poor students of these regions to pursue undergraduate studies in colleges outside the Union Territories,” it said, adding that the AICTE–All India Council of Technical Education Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme funds the students with maintenance fee and academic charges till the end of course, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will enhance seats under PMSSS scheme, to benefit maximum number of students from Jammu and Kashmir, because more & more students want to avail their (PMSSS) provides path-breaking opportunity for the J&K students for capacity building, education, enabling and empowering them to compete in the routine academic courses and enhancing employment opportunities for them, Besides, the existing loopholes mainly in disbursement of funds will be addressed at an earliest, said Khuehami.

“We expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Union Minister for extending it for another five years for the benefit of students,” the statement added. (KDC)
