Flood Like Situation : Schools to remain shut in several Kashmir districts

As the water level in several tributaries of the Jhelum River, that flows across the Kashmir valley continued to rise sharply on Wednesday morning, the district administrations in Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian Kupwara, Anantnag, Bandipora and Baramulla have shut down schools in these districts to ensure the safety of school children.

“ In view of heavy rains, Class Work in all Primary, Middle and High Schools of Anantnag district shall remain suspended today,” the Deputy Commissioner ordered.

Pertinently, the water level in Waishow, a tributary of the Jhelum river that flows in the Kulgam district is flowing above the danger mark in Khudwani.

At the other gauges in Sangam, Pampore, Asham, Ram Munshi Bagh, the water levels are rising too, however, the levels recorded at 9 AM on Wednesday were below the danger level mark.

The MeT has said that Rain/thundershowers are expected all across Jammu Kashmir till tomorrow afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Deputy commissioners in various Kashmir districts are monitoring the situation closely and issued helpline numbers for general public.
