The Reason Behind Shifting the Academic Session to March, Know Details

The reason behind shifting the session is that Class 10th and 12th exams end in November and Students have to wait till July to enroll in professional courses outside the UT as the new academic term starts in July.

"The department is seriously considering shifting the school exam session from November to March.

Explaining the reason behind the move, the officials said, “Despite taking their Class 10th or Class 12th exams in November, students who want to enroll in professional courses out of UT have to wait until the new academic term as those universities starts their session in July.

“Due to the November session, the precious time of students gets wasted,” said the officials.
The officials further added that the move will bring the academic session in line with the schools across."
It was further revealed that the March to March session proposal is almost through and needs a formal order only.

“All preparations in this regard have been completed, and we are expecting the examinations for the 10th and 12th to be held in March this session,” a senior official of SED said, adding that after the 10th and 12th examinations, other lower class exams will be held gradually in march session.

The move follows the government's decision to simultaneously implement the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 and the Uniform Academic Calendar in the Higher Education Department (HED) starting with the current academic session.

According to a top SED official, in this context, J&K Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta presided over a high-level meeting in April this year to assess and discuss strategies for implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in J&K.

In the meeting, it was also resolved to start the current academic year with the introduction of the four-year undergraduate program in J&K colleges in accordance with UGC standards.

They added that the School Education Department will take a final call regarding this proposal soon.
