J&K students to get 34 educational tv channels from current academic year: Sources



Srinagar, Aug 23: The students of Jammu and Kashmir are likely to have 34 Television channels devoted to telecast of high quality educational programmes from the current academic year, sources said.


Swayam Prabha is an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resources Development to provide 34 High Quality Educational Channels through DTH (Direct to Home) across the length and breadth of the country on 24*7 basis. It has curriculum-based course content covering diverse disciplines.


“Directorate of Samagra Shiksha undertakes initiatives like content creation, faculty development and outreach only under Annual Work Plan and Budget (AW&P). Activities under the DIKSHA component are also being taken by the Jammu and Kashmir SCERT as well,” the official said.

DIKSHA—Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing is a National Teacher Platform which is currently being used by teachers and students across the nation to provide school education through distance mode.

“During the recent inaugural ceremony of 200  new educational TV channels, two officials of SCERT represented J&K in Gandhinagar Gujrat,” the official said adding that the request for dedicated channels and its launch has been made to Ministry and shall be done during the current financial year.”

“The Project Approval Board (PAB) has also requested the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to launch the channels at the earliest even the MoE has asked that if any support was required that would be given on time,” the official said.
