The Reliance-owned telecom giant also became the only operator to have acquired airwaves at the premium 700 MHz.

The 5G auction is over and with this we await the rollout of the 5G network in the country. Jio became the highest bidder, closely followed by Airtel and Vodafone. After spending over Rs 88,078 crore, Jio has acquired 24,740 MHz spectrum across bands.

The Reliance-owned telecom giant also became the only operator to have acquired airwaves at the premium 700 MHz. The airwaves remained unreserved because of the high price.

So, now that Jio has been allocated the maximum network, it is imperative to know when the services will be launched in India, which cities will it and how much people will have to pay for the services.

When will the Jio 5G rollout in India?

Jio is expected to roll out 5G services on the occasion of Independence Day i.e. August 15. The company did not formally announce the roll out, but Akash Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Jio, announced that they will celebrate "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" with a 5G rollout across India.

If Jio rolls out 5G on August 15, it will most probably be a pilot test in metro cities across India. The final roll out could only take place by the end of this year. The process could even get longer than that.

Which Indian cities will get the Jio 5G network?

Jio is planning to roll out 5G in nine Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Jamnagar. Jio plans to roll out 5G in 1000 other regions. Cities like Gurgaon, Noida and others will also be added to the list.

Do you need a new 5G sim to get the services?
Currently, there is no information on whether the users will require a new SIM to experience 5G services.

The telecom operators, too, have not shared any details on the same. However, when India transitioned from 3G to 4G, users had to get a new 4G sim to get faster speed.

What will be the price of Jio 5G services?

There has been no word on the pricing of the 5G services so far. After the price hike, even 4G Prepaid plans with maximum benefits are priced between Rs 400 to Rs 500. So we can easily expect the 5G prepaid plans to start from Rs 500 and above.
