Says 87 Hostels To Be Constructed for Economically Backward Blocks Across J&K By Or Before March 2023


Srinagar, Aug 29 : In a bid to bolster the education system in Uri, School Education Department J&K is planning to revamp school buildings damaged in cross-border shelling in the area falling along Line of Control.

Talking to GNS on the sidelines of an inauguration ceremony, Principal Secretary Education Alok Kumar said that the department is intending to rationalize the things from the gross root level. 

“ We are currently in the process for deployment of teaching staff to improve the overall scenario of the education system across Jammu and Kashmir”, he said adding Uri as such will also be covered to do away with the imbalances brought in notice.

“ The non-functional schools and those damaged in cross-border shelling will be renovated and made functional as soon as possible”, he said.

He further informed that 87 hostels, with 50 beds each, are being built in J&K for the economically backward blocks, with construction of some hostels in the final stage. “The construction is stipulated to be completed by or before 2023”, he said.

The Principal Secretary School Education Jammu and Kashmir Alok Kumar inaugurated on Sunday Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Model Hostel-cum-School in a new building at Salamabad Uri, consisting of 100 beds. The KGBV School was running in a rented building in Sultan Dhaki area of Uri.

Principal Secretary SED was accompanied by Project Director Samagra Shiksha Jammu and Kashmir Er. Deep Raj, Additional Secretary Education Kashmir Naseer Ahmed Wani, Director School Education Tassaduq Hussain Mir and Chief Education Officer Baramulla Ghulam Mohammad Lone.

SDM Uri Harvinder Singh, SDPO Uri Junaid Wali, Principal Higher Secondary School Salamabad Ghulam Jeelani , besides other officers of the education department were also present on the occasion. (GNS)
