Student enrolment in govt schools have increased by 14 percent : LG Sinha
Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Saturday said that the student enrolment in government-run-schools have increased by more than 14 percent in past two years.
Sinha said this during the annual day function at Devki Devi Arya Putri Pathshala, Srinagar.
According to a local news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Sinha said, “If you will see three years before 2019, the enrolment in schools was reducing. However, in past two years the enrolment has increased by 14.2 percent in government schools.”
Sinha said that he was optimistic about more development in this regard.
“As you all know that after a long time the Government of India under the PM Narendra Modi,s efforts, New Education Policy has been implemented and under that scheme the early childhood care and education has been started to prepare the students for better and quality education,” he said.
The LG further said, “Despite two years of COVID-19, Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department has done tremendous work and 1.24 Lakh boys and girls have been enrolled for early childhood care and education.”
“2000 Kindergarten have also been established and 12,000 teachers have been trained and more than five Lakh students have been given new learning materials,” he said.
Sinha further added, “1588 computer labs and 1420 vocational training labs have also been established in Jammu and Kashmir. In past two years 28 residential girl hostels have also been established.”
He said, “We are trying to accommodate more girl students who come from the far flung areas so that they can pursue education of their choice. This year we gave decided to provide free NEET coaching to over 14,000 female students.”
“In a Talash campaign to bring out of school children, more than 86,000 student have been enrolled again,” LG said.
Meanwhile, taking to microblogging site Twitter, Sinha said, “Participated in the annual day function at Devki Devi Arya Putri Pathshala, Srinagar. The School, started in 1910, played a pivotal role in providing education to girls from underprivileged section of society. School has ensured greater access to quality education to students.”
“Excellence and inclusion is the key to lay the foundation of J&K’s future. There is a need for new thinking in school education. Scientific temper of the students must be developed and one-to-one mentoring should be encouraged to generate curiosity & creativity,” he added. (KNO)
