A class fourth student in Kerala’s Kozhikode has been in the limelight after she won the first prize in the Quran recitation competition.

Parvathy, despite being from a Hindu family, surprised everyone with her fluency in Arabic by winning first prize with an A grade in the Quran recitation competition.

The achievement came at the Thodannur sub-district arts festival held in Kozhikode. Parvathy studies at Chemmarathur LP School and has a twin sister, Parvana, who is also good at Arabic.

They learnt Arabic from their school teacher, Ruqaiya.

Parvathy's father, Nalish Bobby, is an IT professional working in Kozhikode, while her mother, Dina Prabha, is an English teacher. It was her parents who thought that learning a new language was important.

They felt that their children learning a language they didn't know would be good encouragement. The teachers in Parvathy's school feel she has proved that there is no religion for language.
