Govt college lecturer cancels marriage for not getting Fortuner in dowry, booked

A member from the groom’s family came to the bride’s house and demanded a Fortuner instead. However, the bride’s family refused their demand.

Ghaziabad: A government college lecturer allegedly cancelled the marriage after the family of the bride refused to give him Fortuner as a dowry. The incident took place in Ghaziabad of Uttar Pradesh.
Based on the complaint of the bride’s father, the government college lecturer has been booked under the Dowry Act.

According to police, the lecturer demanded a Fortuner as a dowry from the bride’s family a month before the wedding. As the bride’s family refused to give him the four-wheeler, the lecturer called off the marriage by sending a text on the woman’s phone, reported TOI.

The lecturer is a resident of Siddharth Vihar in Vijay Nagar and works in a government college in UP.

According to the complainant, both the families of the bride and groom met in May 2022 after which the engagement ceremony was held on June 19, 2022.
After discussion, both families agreed on the marriage on January 30, 2023. “On October 10, 2022, the woman’s family booked a WagonR as a gift for the groom. Following this, a member from the groom’s family came to the bride’s house and demanded a Fortuner instead. However, the bride’s family refused their demand. On November 23, the lecturer called off the wedding,” as per the FIR of the bride’s father.

Meanwhile, the government college lecturer and his kin have been under IPC Section 506 (criminal intimidation) and the Dowry Act sections, reported TOI. (Mirror Now) reports
