Police asks AMU to furnish details of Kashmiri students studying at the university


Uttar Pradesh : Days after the alleged attack on a Kashmiri research scholar, The Uttar Pradesh Police has sought the details of all the Kashmiri students studying at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

An official circular of the University’s controller for examinations has been written to all the facilities of the university seeking details of the students which is to be submitted to the Uttar Pradesh Police.

“I am directed to request you to kindly furnish the Information with regard to (i) the total number of students studying in your Faculty / Centre, etc. (Male / Female-wise) and the Total Number of Jammu Kashmiri students admitted (Male / Female-wise, with complete detail) during the session 2022-2023 to the Proctor,” the circular accessed by The Kashmiriyat read.

The Controller Examinations has written the circular to Deans of the Faculties / DSW All Chairmen of the Dept. of Studies in the above Faculties Principal of Colleges/Polytechnic/ S.H. Sr. Sec. School (Boys) / Sr. Sec. School (Girls) / STS School / AMU Gills School / RMPS AMU City School AMU ABK School (Boys Girls) Coordinator, AMU Centre Nodal Office / Centre of Professional Courses / Disability Unit / S.E. (Evening, Course / Interdisc. Biotech. Unit / Interdisciplinary Centre for Artificial Intelligence interdis, Centre for Green and Renewable Energy Director. K.A. Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies / CEPECAMI / Centre for Biomedical & Human Factors Engineering / Centre for Women’s Studies / Centre of Advanced Study Schools Nodal Officer, Community College.

The information that has been sought includes the Student’s name, name of Father, permanent, Present address, Class / Course, and Mobile Number.

The details are to be submitted to the Superintendent of Police for Aligarh District in Uttar Pradesh, read the circular.

Pertinently, the development comes days after a Kashmiri research scholar was allegedly attacked in the University. Protesters had hit the university in the aftermath of the incident.

The protesting students said some students of the university were playing badminton at 1 am and a Ph.D. scholar from Kashmir asked them not to disturb the students.

“The students who were playing badminton in anger started thrashing him. The matter didn’t end here, some more non-local students came in a group on the very next day and thrashed the Kashmiri students,” the protesters alleged. (The Kashmiriyat) reports
