Teacher bites off colleague's ear during fight in Pattan


Baramulla, Feb 23: A school teacher of a government school has been arrested for allegedly biting off a colleague's ear during a verbal altercation over an official assignment in Pattan area of Baramulla.

Pattan police said that the incident happened at Government Middle School Buchoo in education zone Pattan on February 21.

Police said that the accused assaulted his colleague and bit his ear during the scuffle, which started due to a heated argument between the two staffers at the school.

"Both the teachers are from Buchoo village and were assigned the job of updating student information on UDISE. During the process they had a verbal altercation which led to physical brawl," an official said.

A police official at Pattan told Rising Kashmir that a case was registered in this regard and the accused teacher was arrested following the incident.

"The police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the altercation," he added.

The Chief Education Officer (CEO) Baramulla, Chaman Lal Sharma, while confirming the incident said that his office received a message regarding the incident from the concerned ZEO.

"This incident is unfortunate and has definitely had a bad impact on society. Investigation is going on and necessary action will be taken against the erring staffer," Sharma said.

The incident has caused concern among the local community and is being widely discussed on social media.
