Here are a few common mistakes aspirants should avoid while preparing for NEET 2023.

By India Today Education Desk: NEET (National Eligibility and Entrance Exam) is a national-level medical examination in India. Apart from AIIMS and JIPMER, it is the only entrance examination for all government and private medical institutes in the country.

This year's exam is scheduled to be conducted on May 7, 2023. NEET is the most difficult but coveted entrance examination for those wishing to pursue a career in the medical field. All students who prepare for and take the exam, make tremendous efforts to ace the exam and secure admission to the country's top medical colleges/institutions.

Lakhs of students each year write the NEET exam and dream of qualifying for the exam on the first attempt with a good rank. Yet, most of these applicants fail to do so.

The problem is not always the commitment or dedication of the students, sometimes they choose the inappropriate study plan which results in wasting a lot of their precious and valuable study time.

Applicants must identify and correct these silly mistakes as soon as possible in order to secure a good rank in NEET 2023.

There are a few common mistakes aspirants should avoid while preparing for NEET 2023:

1. IGNORING NCERT BOOKS

The first and foremost mistake that many students make is ignoring NCERT books. NCERT books serve as the foundation of the NEET exam and contain almost 70% of the syllabus of the NEET exam.

While students are engaging themselves in too many books and other study materials from different publishers, it is always advised not to forget NCERT as it is one of the most efficient books.

2. POOR TIME MANAGEMENT

The most critical aspect is effective time management. Creating a study plan can allow you to prepare more effectively for your tests. It will assist you in focusing and devoting more attention to crucial topics and subjects.

Regrettably, most students do not consider it significant. Avoiding difficult chapters can significantly reduce your chances of scoring high marks. Also, provide enough time for each subject and topic.

3. NOT SOLVING PREVIOUS YEARS' QUESTION PAPERS AND MOCK EXAMS

Most students make the error of not taking the time to solve sample exams. It is important to solve previous years’ question papers and mock tests as it will help the candidate to recognise weak areas on which attention and focus are required.

Along with that, solving mock exams will also help aspirants in better time management and maintaining speed and accuracy during exams.

4. PRIORITISING AND FOCUSSING ON A SINGLE SUBJECT

NEET is primarily for biology geeks. Hence, instead of focusing on all topics, some students decide to study biology while neglecting physics and chemistry. Avoid this practice.

Physics and chemistry are unavoidable sections of NEET. While biology can help you pass the NEET, remember that the physics and chemistry sections determine your overall rank As a result, give equal weightage to all 3 sections.

5. REFERRING TO MULTIPLE BOOKS AND DIFFERENT SOURCES OF STUDY MATERIALS

This may be a tremendous mistake. Students frequently acquire a lot of information from many different books, which is mostly irrelevant and useless. This practice should be avoided.

NCERT must be the primary study material for NEET preparation. Reading from numerous sources might lead to confusion during exam.
