WhatsApp might soon move navigation bar to bottom on Android

A recent report suggests WhatsApp developers might soon move the chat, calls, communities and status tab to the bottom of the screen.

WhatsApp is one of the most popular apps on mobile devices if you want to call, text or send files to your friends, family or colleagues over the internet. While the developers constantly work on bringing new features to the instant messaging platform, the user interface feels inconsistent if we compare the Android and iOS version of the app.

But according to a report by WABetaInfo, this might soon change, with WhatsApp developers reportedly moving the chats, calls, communities and status tabs to the bottom of the screen, similar to the iOS version of the app. The report alsos suggests that the change is a response to users requesting that the developers revamp the user interface of the app.

The upcoming change was spotted on the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Android (v2.23.8.4) and might find its way to the stable version in the near future. This is really handy since it might enable users with large phones to navigate the various tabs using one hand. It should be noted that the upcoming change is currently under development and will be available in a future version of the app alongside some other improvements, so we will have to wait a while.

Since the start of the year, WhatsApp developers have been working to bring new features like the ability to lock individual chats, video messages for iPhone users, set voice notes as status updates, approve new group participants and more.
