7th Pay Commission: Central government employees may get bigger DA hike than expected, details inside

The second Dearness Allowance hike of 2023 for central government employees is set to be announced soon.

DA hike news: With lakhs of central government employees eagerly awaiting the second round of Dearness Allowance (DA) hike for 2023, a positive development has emerged as per latest reports. The Centre is set to announce the DA hike soon.

As per reports, the DA hike announcement can be expected between Navratri and Diwali. While earlier reports have claimed that central employees’ DA will be hiked by 3 percent, the figure could rise further.

As per the formula for DA calculation based on the latest Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW), a 4 percent hike is likely for central government employees, according to an Economic Times report. This comes as a big boost as employees have been expecting a 3 percent hike to take the DA figure to 45 percent. A similar increase to the early 2023 hike of 4 percent will take DA for central employees to 46 percent.

This also exceeds the expectations revealed by All India Railwaymen Federation General Secretary Shiva Gopal Mishra last month when he said, “We are demanding a four percentage point hike in dearness allowance. But the dearness allowance hike works out to be a little over three percentage points. The government does not factor in hiking DA beyond the decimal point. Thus DA is likely to be increased by three percentage points to 45 per cent.”

The second DA hike of 2023 for central government employees, whenever announced, will be effective from July 1, 2023 onwards under the 7th Pay Commission rules. (Agencies)
