Govt constitutes committee for fixation of fee structure of J&K’s professional colleges


Srinagar, May 31: The Jammu and Kashmir government Friday constituted a committee for fixation of fee structure of professional colleges in J&K.

As per the order issued by the Commissioner Secretary, General Administration Department (GAD), Sanjeev Verma, the committee will be headed by Justice (Retd) Maharaj Krishan Hanjura as its chairman.

The committee has been constituted in compliance with directions passed by the Supreme Court of India in Writ Petition (C) 350 of 1993 ‘Islamic Academy of Education and Another versus State of Karnataka and Others’.

“Sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of the committee, comprising the members and the chairman, for Fixation of Fee Structure of Professional Colleges in J&K,” the order reads.

While Justice Maharaj Krishan Hanjura (Retd) will be the chairman of the committee, the Administrative Secretary Higher Education Department will be the Member Secretary of the committee for matters relating to the Higher Education Department and the Administrative Secretary Skill Development Department has been also appointed as the Member Secretary of the committee for the matters relating to Skill Development Department.

Also, the Administrative Secretary Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department has been appointed as the Member Secretary of the committee who will deal with the matters relating to H&ME while the representative of the Medical Council of India (MCI), now National Medical Commission (NMC) and a representative from All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) will also act as the members of the committee.

“The committee will also have a Chartered Accountant of repute who will be notified by the Chairman of the committee,” the order reads.

As per the order, the committee will function strictly as per directions passed by the Supreme Court in Writ Petition (C) 350 of 1993 ‘Islamic Academy of Education and Another versus State of Karnataka and Others’.

“The committee will be serviced by the H&ME Department. The tenure of the committee will be for one year or till further orders, whichever is earlier,” the order reads. (Greater Kashmir)
