NEET UG 2024 results were announced on Tuesday

The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Wednesday announced that candidates who experienced time loss during the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024 have been granted grace marks. This decision has led to 67 candidates securing NEET All India Rank (AIR) 1, with each achieving a percentile score of 99.997129.

"NTA received few representations and Court Cases from the candidates of NEET (UG) 2024 raising concerns of loss of time during the conduct of the examination on 05.05.2024. Such cases/representations were considered by NTA and the normalisation formula, which has been devised and adopted by the Hon'ble Supreme Court, vide its Judgment dated 13.06.2018, was implemented to address the loss of time faced by the candidates of NEET (UG) 2024," reads the official notice.

"The loss of examination time was ascertained, and such candidates were compensated with grace marks. So, the candidate's marks can be 718 or 719 also," the NTA explains.

The announcement comes in response to concerns raised by numerous candidates regarding the exclusion of category-wise NEET toppers' marks for the scheduled caste (SC) category in the latest NEET result notification. Candidates have also requested clarification on the scores of 718 and 719.

Students and experts have raised allegations of malpractice in the merit list on multiple social media platforms.

A student wrote on X: "Dear NTA, this is too much. How can it be possible for a student to get 718 or 719 and why didn't this happen before ???? Why is it happening for the first time? This has to be answered properly, not like this. Why are you neglecting to answer? Where is the answer for the leak?"

"On what grounds has this been done? All the students who appeared in NEET 2024 deserve to know this in detail," another user inquired, urging the NTA to provide clarification.

Meanwhile, in Mumbai, numerous medical aspirants are urging for a re-examination of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) 2024. They cite allegations of paper leaks, the last-minute introduction of grace marks for time lost, and discrepancies in this year's results as reasons for their demand.

NEET-UG is the qualifying entrance exam for admission to Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS), Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS), and Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) and BSc (H) Nursing courses.
