Srinagar, Dec 19: In a significant development, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Kashmir University (KU) has come to the rescue of the BA LLB students enrolled at the Sopore Law College.

Earlier the BA LLB 10th semester students of Sopore Law College complained that they were not allowed to appear in the examination of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) subject scheduled on December 19 for having shortage in attendance.

The students however, said that the besides Sopore Law College, some of the students of BALLB 10th semester enrolled in the Department of Law at the main campus of the Kashmir University were also barred from appearing in the exam over a shortage in attendance.

"The students enrolled at main campus have been given a mercy chance by the varsity and were asked to continue the classes (supplement classes) to increase the percentage of attendance. But no such relief was given to the students by the Sopore Law College," the students complained to Greater Kashmir.

Amid this the KU administration took up the matter with the Dean of the Law department and stated that besides students falling short of attendance at the main campus, the relief must be given to the law students enrolled in the KU affiliated colleges as well.

"If the students will not be allowed to appear in the exam within a month then their completion of degrees will be delayed by six months," a student said.

Amid this, the varsity administration decided that additional classes be conducted for the students of BA LLB 10th semester who are facing shortage in their attendance.

It was decided that to save their precious academic time, special examination shall be conducted in February 2026.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, Vice Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan said the decision will be implemented for all the BALLB students enrolled at main campus or affiliated colleges.

"We have conveyed the Dean of the department about it and a special exam will be conducted for these students who are facing a shortage in attendance," VC told Greater Kashmir. (GK)
