JKBOSE Grants 15% Syllabus Relaxation for Class 10th, 11th & 12th Summer Zone Exams 2026

JKBOSE Grants 15% Syllabus Relaxation for Class 10th, 11th & 12th Summer Zone Exams 2026

Big Relief for Students Appearing in Annual Regular (Feb–March) Examinations

Srinagar | January 29, 2026:
The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has officially announced a 15% syllabus relaxation for students of Class 10th, 11th and 12th appearing in the Annual Regular 2026 examinations (February–March session) in Summer Zone areas of Jammu Division.

The decision has been taken to ensure academic fairness after learning disruptions during the previous academic session and has been notified through an official order issued by the Director Academics, JKBOSE.

Who Will Get the 15% Syllabus Relaxation?

The relaxation is applicable to:

  • Class 10th students
  • Class 11th students
  • Class 12th students
  • 📍 Summer Zone areas of Jammu Division
  • 🗓️ Annual Regular 2026 Exams (February–March session)

This benefit is an extension of the relaxation earlier provided during the October–November 2025 session and is now officially applicable to the upcoming board examinations.

What Does 15% Syllabus Relaxation Mean for Students?

JKBOSE has clearly explained how the relaxation will work in the examination system:

  • Students will be required to attempt only 85% of the total marks
  • The 85% attempted marks will be treated as 100% marks
  • The relaxation is provided through internal choice
  • No marks will be deducted for not attempting the remaining 15%

⚠️ Important:
The question paper will still be set from the complete 100% syllabus. Students are advised to prepare the entire syllabus, as the relaxation applies only at the time of answering the paper.

Marks to Be Attempted After 15% Relaxation (Official Pattern)

As per JKBOSE notification:

  • 100 marks paper → Attempt 85 marks
  • 90 marks paper → Attempt 77 marks
  • 80 marks paper → Attempt 68 marks
  • 70 marks paper → Attempt 60 marks
  • 60 marks paper → Attempt 51 marks
  • 50 marks paper → Attempt 43 marks
  • 40 marks paper → Attempt 34 marks

Attempting the prescribed reduced marks will be considered equivalent to full marks.

How the 15% Relaxation Works – Explained with Examples

Example 1: 80 Marks Paper

  • Total paper: 80 marks
  • Marks to attempt: 68 marks (85%)
  • If a student attempts 68 marks, it will be treated as full 80 marks

Example 2: 70 Marks Paper

  • Total paper: 70 marks
  • Marks to attempt: 60 marks
  • Attempting 60 marks = considered as 70/70

Example 3: Percentage Calculation

  • If a student scores 50 marks in an 80 marks paper
  • Normal percentage: 50 ÷ 80 × 100 = 62.5%
  • After applying 15% relaxation:
    • Effective marks considered ≈ 59 out of 68
    • Adjusted percentage ≈ 73–74%

👉 This means students benefit from open choice + scaled evaluation, reducing exam pressure.

MCQs and Language Subjects

  • Each MCQ attempted will be evaluated individually
  • The same relaxation pattern applies to Grammar sections in language subjects
  • Internal choices will be provided to help students utilise the relaxation effectively

Why JKBOSE Granted This Relaxation

According to officials, the decision was taken due to:

  • Academic disruptions during the previous session
  • Adverse weather conditions
  • Flood-like situations
  • Law & order–related challenges affecting syllabus completion

The move aims to ensure that Summer Zone students are not academically disadvantaged in comparison to other zones.

Important Advisory for Students

  • 📘 Prepare the full syllabus (questions will come from 100%)
  • ✍️ Use internal choice wisely during the exam
  • ❌ Do not leave compulsory sections unanswered
  • 🧮 Plan answers to cover only the required 85% marks
