MeT Predicts Moderate to Heavy Rains, Snow Likely from Tonight in Jammu & Kashmir 


Srinagar, Jan 26: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Monday issued an advisory warning of the possibility of moderate to heavy rain and snowfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, across parts of Jammu and Kashmir from the night of January 26 to the evening of January 27.

According to the advisory, the prevailing weather conditions may adversely impact normal life, particularly in higher reaches where snowfall is expected to intensify during the period.

The MeT has advised farmers across the Union Territory to suspend all farm operations till January 28 in view of the inclement weather forecast.

It further cautioned the general public, especially those residing in or travelling to snow-bound higher reaches, against venturing into sloppy and avalanche-prone areas during the advisory period.

The Meteorological Department has urged people to remain cautious and follow official advisories to avoid any untoward incidents.—(RK)

Currently conditions are favourable for direct snowfall in the plains. 


Srinagar city also has a high chance of receiving direct snow from late tonight.


If the snow stays dry, the plains may see good accumulation.
