Season's First Major Snowfall Likely In Kashmir From Tomorrow, Widespread Rains and Snow Expected


Severe Weather Alert from tomorrow night and 23 January over J&K


Kashmir, Jan 21: Seasons first major wet spell is going to affect over J&K from tomorrow Evening to 24 January morning with Peak activity expected on 23 January.

Strong Western disturbance to bring widespread moderate to heavy rain and snow with some very heavy precipitation is expected in some areas of South kashmir and Chenab Valley.

Higher reaches of Kashmir valley may receive very heavy snowfall. Snow depth ranging between 3 feet to 4 feet in higher reaches.

Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Doodhparti, and Pahalgam may receive 18-30 inches of Snowfall respectively.


 For Kashmir Plains


Widespread snowfall is expected over plains of Kashmir, seasons first and major snowfall is possible Peak impact is expected over South kashmir, Snow depth ranging between 6 inches to 2 feet in plains ( 8-12 inches can occur over North Kashmir, 6-12 inches over Plains of central Kashmir including Srinagar city , and 8 inches to 2 feet in plains of South kashmir).


For Jammu region


Moderate to heavy rains is expected in plains with lightning and Gusty winds while upper reaches may receive heavy snowfall during the same period as mentioned above.

Places in Kishtwar, Poonch , Bhaderwah, Doda and Ramban higher reaches can receive heavy to very heavy snowfall.
