WhatsApp Might Soon Become Your Mini Contacts App | Details Inside

WHATSAPP is among the popular instant messaging apps used worldwide. The company regularly brings features and improvements to the platform to optimise the user experience. In the latest attempt, the company has introduced a new feature (in beta) to ease the process of saving contacts within the app rather than hovering between an external contact app, reports WABetaInfo.

Currently, the functionality is undergoing beta trials on Android. Labelled as "Manage contacts within the app," the feature is rolling out for some testers in the latest versions of the app on Android via Google Play Store. The update will expand to more testers in future.

In the past, the shortcut to save "New contact" in the app redirected the user to their native contact app. With the new feature, this is now possible inside WhatsApp. Contacts can be added to the "contact list or Google account," the platform reports.

In the screengrab shared by the news tracker, the UI can be seen with First name, Last name, Country code, Phone [number] and Save to fields. Additional details can be entered after tapping "Add Information" and exploring the options.

To check if the feature is working on your handset, tap the "green message" icon at the bottom right of the app. Then tap "New contact," if you are not redirected to another app to save the contact, the feature is available on your device. The platform lists "WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.8.2, 2.23.8.4, 2.23.8.5, and 2.23.8.6" have been listed as compatible updates.

Further, a user can add unknown numbers who text them on WhatsApp from the app itself. Plus, editing information will be possible too.

The Current Process
A problem we all (arguably) have faced at least once in our WhatsApp usage is texting unsaved contacts. A typical user has to move to the default or Google Contacts app to save the WhatsApp number. Then head back to the messaging app and refresh the contact list. After this, they search or scroll to check the saved number and start the chat.

The feature undergoing beta channels aims to ease out this process. This will help a user stay focused on one app.
